Whiling moving FIA from Reedville to Edgdmere she has taught me a loeeon. FIA was built in Virgina and stayed in that state from that time. now for the rest of the story.

Have worked hard to get her ready to move to her new home. Well as we leave Smith Point Marina and we cross the mouth of the Potomac River she fought going over the Maryland State Line. Winds were focast at 8 to 12 from SW,

Well as we round Smith Point Light we were hit hard 25 to 30 with gust oF 45. Well to late to turn back now. We motored out way north for about 4 hours. Then strange things started to happen. Had fuel issue,. She would keep cutting off. Weather so bad that could not leave hrlp.

Motor quits just south of Solomans Islands. Try to restart would start and start for a few seconds then shut off again. Weather to bad to do anything So put up a 130 jib, That also worked but was fighting current and wind. Sailed for aobut an hour then was loosing ground. Plan B call Tow Boat US. This was about 35 foot Tow Boat. As I watch him come out of the Solomans you could see his while bottom almost to the Propss. Kind of like a jet ski in the surf. Well hook up the bridal and tow line. Man he takes off like he was going to the races 10,4 knowts, For those who know what happene to a vessel no more needs to be explained. My boat was uncontrol able to say the least. Danage was done to my boat, Did you ever read their contrace. Please do it will piss you off.

Will add some pictures when I can. Crew kissed the dock and ran.

Joe

But negligence might be their undoing. Or hope so anyway...

Not sure that I understand. Did you have her main up ? Not sure why, with a reef or two in the main, she could not have compensated for the lack of a motor. Was your crew frightened? Why did he jump ship ? Blessings and fair winds for the remainder of your journey.

OK Joe, was it an adventure, or an ordeal? And yes the mouth of the Potomac can be quite adventuresome at times.

Hell mouth of the Potomac was the better part of that trip...LOL What is funny listening to the weather on VHF and being in it sure is strange. They are never right. How can they be so wrong. 6 to 12 they are reporting and it is really 25 to 30 gusting to 35+ Hello our Government at work.

When the boat is older, or hasn't been used much for several years sediment can build up in the bottom of the fuel tank over time. Then it gets shaken up in bad weather and blocks the filters.

A way to catch it is to have a 2 micron filter in the Racor, same as your final filter, instead of a 10 micron in the Racor. Then if the fuel is stirred up it will only clog the Racor wich can be changed in 30 seconds even in a bad sea.

Glad you got back to terra firma ok.

Good to hear your OK. Hope you don't have too much down time because of this.

Good advice though not sure Joe had Racors set up on the outboard.
