Parrothead,Go unarmed it your right! Its mine to go armed.I buy insurance for my property and hope to not need it but it would suck to need it and not have it.Same with a firearm.Captain I know shot some assholes off Andros trying to board his sportfishing boat in a spray painted Scarab. If they would have boarded he would have been dead and the owners.I grew up in S Florida and have been all over the U.S. except for a few states.I ll go armed! As far as foreign countries permits can be had for a fee of course.Private contractors do it all the time.

Freedive, I wish people who are against firearms would put their money where their mouth is and put up signs in front of their homes ,on their cars and where they work that says:
This is a Gun Free Area,
Firearms Not Permitted

Most people that are anti-anything have never did it or were told by someone some bullshit. My wife didnt want guns in the house after we married.I took her shooting off Tamiami trail and she was hooked!Didnt want me to hunt deer.I brought home a wild boar and she being cuban went to work on shaving it and marinating with mojo, garlic, onion, and green pepper!Took her to Knob Creek machinegun shoot with my youngest for two days and by next shoot in the spring we were the owners of four machineguns and a suppressor! My buddy only bowhunted and hated guns(old hippy)now he hunts with pistols for hogs and has a collection almost as large as mine.Best thing in the world to do is educate them by letting them try it and see for themselves.Same with motorcycles.flying ,diving,or boating.Remember when sex was fun and motorcycles were dangerous?Times sure have changed.

Not anti gun at all. You presume too much as usual. I am a gun owner.
Appropriate use and ownership are two different things.

I don't live in criminal bound neighborhoods personally.
The cracker police dispatch women at the Police dept made a copy
of the gun owner records at the police station and gave thenm to her
criminal brother in law. They cased and stole the guns from all the gun owners while
they where at work.43 houses later they figured it out. As stolen guns are more valuable than new ones.
No one wants my used TV so I have never been bothered in my 50 years on the planet.

Safety is a matter of paying attention so you don't run into problems.
Not in fighting your way out of them.
I have no need of guns on a boat preferring to anchor where they are not required.

Venezuela or Miami is the only area they might be needed over this way (The cruisers in Georgetown,Bahamas sometimes get out of hand with volleyballs however) and prudence dictates not going there , especially if you used them on a citizen there you might be charged with murder for political reasons.

And clearing in other countries you won't be getting automatic weapons back.

As a hobby I am sure you get some enjoyment out of it but considering your ownership of automatic weapons is
public information it reduces your families safety not increases it by placing valuable items in your home.
Think of what drug dealers would pay for them. I know you don't agree with me and I am sure you can post more pro gun pictures.
Like I said I have no problem with gun ownership in this country but I would not keep registered guns in my home as it invites theft.

Another issue is the police. My phone wires got fried by a lighting strike as we have many here in florida and when one of the girls couldnt get ahold of there mother for a few days they called the cops on us to see if there was an issue. When the cops came to the door I assured them everything was fine but they asked 50 questions anyway and while the SO was getting dressed They asked if I had guns in the house. I said I did but I had no ammo. Screams of GUN GUN and drawn service weapons and a hand at my throat where the response scaring the crap out of the SO. Took 20 minutes to get rid of the yahoo freak cops.

As guns are of no use against cops and I am much more afraid of cops than criminals I don't find much use for them in an urban setting.
When I lived in the boondocks it was different of course but that town didn't have a single cop so I felt safe there.
Collecting of anything is fine with me. And if you want to go around riding motorcycles or shooting guns at hogs or skydiving/bunji jumping/base jumping or boating or screwing then far be it for me to tell you what to do. I have no interest in restricting your activities in the least. Nor do I believe in government restricting it baring obvious issues such as felons owning guns (or being Governer of Florida btw) or people with AIDS screwing bareback. Frankly do whatever you please as long as it doesn't effect my rights to do the same. But saying boating with machine guns is safer than boating without is frankly......well you know.

Parrothead,Get a good safe and an alarm! If the cops are that bad where you are at I would be calling FDLE and the FBI to investigate right after I called my attorney about a lawsuit!I hope you never need that gun on your sailboat!Lady I know in Miami had your same view(Boston liberal)until she was robbed on the sidewalk in Bal Harbour in the afternoon. She is now a gun packing libertarian.Thug kicked her ass just for the hell of it after he got the purse!Crime is EVERYWHERE!Scumbags come up here all the time thinking its easy picking compared to Florida. They get their asses handed to them when they are caught. At the least I would have a can of bear spray in my house to stop an intruder. My brother had a head float by at Peanut Island while shrimping off his Oday.Someone had to cut that head off.Month later same area a puffed up body floats by!This was in the early 90s.Think things are safer? We may disagree on alot of thing but I would still urge you to think of some type of security for if not for you then your wife.I have full insurance coverage on ALL my vehicles and for years never used it.Two years ago my buddy backs over my Harley Electraglide and totals it!I was covered and eventually forgave my buddy.Good to have when you need it.Do you carry flares, sat phone and a life jacket on your boat?Same with a firearm.

Firearms are a personal choice, just like anchors. There are thousands of threads in boating blogs arguing the merits and disadvantages of firearms (and anchors) on boats. Firearms are not a problem in the US because of the 2nd amendment, which I firmly and vigrously support. However, if you take firearms to a foreign country they will not be welcome and I can tell you that from first hand experience. You have to declare firearms in EVERY country when you are checking in and in most of the countries they remove the firearm from your boat until your departure. For example, when my wife and I arrived in Austrialia, they removed my shotgun from my boat in Brisbane and didn't return it until Darwin when I departed for Indonesia. In other words, they flew the gun to me when I departed. So, firearms don't do you any good in most countries because they are not on the boat. Also, don't even think about not declaring guns. In Malaysia it is a capital offense to not declare firearms when you enter the country. So you will be put to death with no due process rights like you have in the US. And remember, this was a shotgun not an assault rifle. Assault rifles are even more tightly regulated and frowned upon. In Mexico they will throw you in jail and more than likely seize your boat for undeclared firearms. The only place I felt I needed firearms during my travels were the north coast of Venezuela and entering the Red Sea. Otherwise, they are just not worth the hassle in my opinion. However, to each his own on this issue. Just be sure you throughly research the issue in each country if you are carrying firearms. Otherwise, your trip may come to an abrupt and very costly end.
